Congratulations to Students Ronan Allencherril, Amila Joseph, Lukas Russell, & Muhammad A. Siddiqi who have met the requirements to enter the 2013 SAT/National Merit Scholarship Program. With a selection score of 200 or above, each of these students is among the 50,000 highest scoring participants of some 1.5 million program entrants. From here, students will learn in September whether they have been identified as Semifinalists or Commended students.
The Texas Association of Student Councils, sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, has recognized the MHS Student Council with the following awards. Fewer than 20% of TASC schools are recognized in one or more areas, so this is quite an accomplishment. Carol Fountain is their sponsor.

The Texas Association of Secondary Principals has recognized Nora Farouk as a Commended Scholar. The TASSP Academic Excellence Recognition Program was established to honor and recognize high school seniors who have demonstrated excellence in areas of academic achievement, test scores and writing skills.
Kudos to AnnaLisa Robles for being named Magnificent Maverick of the Week.
Congratulations to the HOSA students that competed at this past weekend's state level events. Three students advanced to the National contest this summer in Orlando Florida. They are; Briana Banaglorioso for Dental Spelling (2nd at state), and the CERT Team of Julius Agnoand Caleb Fortune (2nd at state). The 223 Texas Scholars who were recognized at last Friday's ceremony. The number of Texas Scholars has increased from 81 to 119 to 150 to 223 for our four graduating classes (09 to 12).
The following students are recongized for athletic achievements:
• 13 girls who qualified for the State Track Meet in Austin - Makenzie Smajstrla, Ariana Sanders, Feliza Bustos, Kyerra Simmons, Ariana Sanders, Zaria Brown, Ashlin Arnold, Meschelle Gills, Yolonda Decker-Williams, Ikeea Brown, Randi Hamilton, Mariah Shackelford, & Tyra Brantley.
• The following 6 boys who qualified for the State Track Meet in Austin Nick Holt, Julian Walker, Richard Rose, Monte Perkins, Josh Lee, & Jonathan Layssard
• To Brianna Turner (1st Team) and Terry Allen (2nd Team) for being named to the Houston Chronicle All Greater Houston Area Basketball Teams. MHS was one the only school to place a boy and girl on the 1st and 2nd teams. To girls softball for their victory over Friendswood last Friday. With the victory, the Lady Mavs remain undefeated in District 24-4A.
And, finally special recognition to the Maverick Players on a successful production of Macbeth!
