New H-E-B Grocery Store for the Pearland Community

The Pearland City Council approved a zoning change after ten months of negotiation that will allow H-E-B to build a grocery store on Pearland’s East side. The City Council voted unanimously

designating 23 acres for general business development. Originally some members of the City Council were concerned about the control of the development, however after H-E-B Houston President Scott McClelland assured council the company was committed to development of the land as a showcase for the east side of Pearland.

Families looking for summer activities will enjoy that Pearland Parks and Recreation is hosting a series of Lego summer camps at the Westside Event Center in the coming weeks.

The Building Brains Lego Camps let all children develop their fine motor skills, critical thinking skills, imagination, and confidence using math and science in a fun filled camp environment.

The American Canal: More Than Just a Scenic Waterway

Some cast fishing lines in it or go exploring for tadpoles, but the American Canal is not a bayou or stream drifting by Sedona Lakes. Long before the beautiful new homes in this master-planned community were built, the American Canal (formally known as the American Rice Canal) was bringing water from the Brazos River to the thirsty farmland of Brazoria County.

Today, it also irrigates golf courses and plant nurseries and provides water to various industrial customers of the Gulf Coast Water Authority. It is a source for drinking water for many communities.

Kids Backporch Productions to hold auditions

Pearland’s children recently got the opportunity to audition for Aladdin Jr. and The Music Man at the Pearland Community Center, located at 3523 Liberty Street. The cast of children ranges in age from 7 years old through 8th grade. These musicals are part of Kids Backporch Productions fourth annual summer musical camp. This camp provides the children of Pearland an opportunity to gain experience with professional training in theater, voice, and dance.

The Pearland Cinemark theater located at 3311 Silverlake Village Drive recently opened their new luxury theater called Cinemark XD Auditorium. The auditorium features the company’s largest digital projection system.
